AI_NEWS~ Kelly Clarkson Explains Beyoncé Song Similarity

Most singers would enjoy being compared to Beyoncé, but not Kelly Clarkson. The original American Idol is being accused of ripping off one of Beyoncé's hits!

Kelly's newly released single, "Already Gone," is drawing unwanted attention from bloggers who claim the tune sounds remarkably similar to Beyoncé's "Halo."

According to Kelly, the blame should be placed on Ryan Tedder, the One Republic front man who co-wrote "Already Gone."

"No one's going to be sitting at home thinking, 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyoncé and Kelly the same track to write to,'" Kelly told Canada's CBC Radio. "No they're just going to be saying I ripped someone off."

Kelly says she tried to convince her record label not to release "Already Gone" as her next single, but she was unsuccessful.

"In the end, they're releasing it without my consent," she says. "It sucks, but it's one of those things I have no control over."

AI_NEWS~ 'American Idol''s Top 10 at Graceland

Video on website

'American Idol''s Top 10 at Graceland

The "American Idol" Top 10 pay homage to Elvis Presley with a stop at Graceland while touring the country on this summer's "American Idol Tour 2009."

Lil Rounds, who is from Memphis, had fun showing winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert how to get their Memphis mojo flowing by trying on sunglasses like the ones Elvis wore.

"The aura that he had ... the energy that he had, people just wanted a piece of him," Kris says. "Not that I am saying I want that, but he always did stuff that people were like, whoa are you serious. Elvis was incredible."

And the proof of that was Elvis' gold and platinum records, which got the "Idols" all shook up! That collection will grow when Sony Records presents the Presley estate with new awards during Elvis Week in August. For more information on Graceland and the King, check out Elvis.com.

AI_NEWS~ Fans pack BOK Center for "American Idols Live"

Fans pack BOK Center for "American Idols Live"

By CARY ASPINWALL World Scene Writer
Published: 7/24/2009  10:54 PM

While a rock show thundered on the other side of downtown Friday night, pop music had its moment at "American Idols Live" in the BOK Center.

Fans packed the arena to cheer for their favorite singers from the top 10 finalists of America's most popular TV show's eighth season.

Winner and Arkansas homeboy Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert closed the show and drew the biggest cheers — but their sets could not have been more different.

Allen played stripped-down, soulful versions of pop and rock favorites, while Lambert played a sexed-up set of metal-infused, artsy glam rock.

Allen — sporting jeans and a plaid shirt — opted for a set that included Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," the Killers' "All These Things I've Done" and the Beatles' "Hey Jude."

Lambert, decked out in a spiked black leather jacket and sparkly belt buckle, slithered through a set that included Tears for Fears' "Mad World," Muse's "Starlight" and a medley of David Bowie hits.

The fans loved it all, whether they were sporting yellow "I love Kris Allen" T-shirts or shorts with "Adamgasm" on the rear. Some fans found a happy compromise with "We (heart) Kradam" shirts.

Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey caused plenty of frenzy among the crowd, too.

Gokey closed the set with two emotional Rascal Flatts covers — a smart choice for an Oklahoma audience, since Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney went to high school in Picher. He also added some salsa dancing flair to his cover of Santana's "Maria Maria."

Iraheta,

this season's resident rocker chick, broke out her guitar for a cover of Pink's "Rock Star" and growled on Heart's "Barracuda."

She also joined Lambert for a duet on Foghat's "Slow Ride," which provided the show's raciest moment: An excited fan tossed her lacy red bra on stage.

The other five finalists — Matt Giraud, Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Megan Joy and Michael Sarver — treated the show's die-hard fans to a set that included everything from Willie Nelson to Beyonce.

Teens and their parents lined up outside the BOK Center hours before the show in July heat just to catch a glimpse of the "Idols," hoping to snag autographs and pictures of their favorites. Once inside the arena, they screamed until they were hoarse and never put the cell phone cameras away.

A year ago, Kris Allen was studying business at college in Conway, Ark. — loving music but thinking it would always be a side gig.

On Saturday, he heads home to headline an arena performance in North Little Rock. He and his fellow idols are a little sleep-deprived and homesick, but they're all thrilled to be living their dream: getting paid to sing.

"I never really expected this to happen. That's why I was going to college," Allen said in a preshow interview.

He has several dozen cities and tour stops to go, but wherever the next few months take him, he'll be thrilled to be there.

"I have no reason to complain," he said.

AI_NEWS~ Former 'Idol' Contestant Gets Second Chance on 'America's Got Talent'

Former 'Idol' Contestant Gets Second Chance on 'America's Got Talent'

agt-kelli.JPG

There was another Kelli, a lesser known one, on the debut season of American Idol, and appearing last night on America's Got Talent, Kelli Glover says the NBC talent competition is her final shot at achieving her dream, six years after reaching the semifinals on Idol.

"After American Idol, I went to this emotional thing. It was really tough. I really wanted that. I really thought that it was my chance, but it was just so devastating. It made me not want to sing anymore," says Kelli, adding that she temporarily gave up on singing and worked in a casino. "This is the last chance. I'm getting older. I really want to do something in music, and now I'm here. I want to prove to American that I can really do it."
Her heartfelt rendition of "Listen" plus her whole Idol reject back story divided critics.

"Are we really expected to be entertained by someone already given their "one shot," their "one opportunity" who is merely trumpeting their same exaggerated act for a second time?" inquires Entertainment Weekly's Henning Fog "Why should viewers be asked to treat the moment like it's now suddenly something heartwarming and special?"

Matt Carter of the Examiner, meanwhile, says Kelli's performance "shined" on the episode. "The best was former American Idol contestant Kelli Glover," he writes.

Stepping up on stage, America's Got Talent judge Sharon Osbourne, obviously prodded by some people, asked Kelli to name one special thing about her. When she mentioned her Idol stint, Piers Morgan curtly said, "Oh OK." After her performance, Osbourne and David Hasselhoff were both all praises for Kelli, while Morgan looked uncertain, citing the dime-a-dozen good singers on the show. In the end, however, he still said yes and Kelli got her second shot at wowing America.

NEW YORK - (Business Wire) 19 Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of CKX, Inc. (Nasdaq:CKXE), today announces a new partnership with Ryan Seacrest. The award-winning television and radio host, successful producer and entrepreneur has committed to a new, long-term agreement that secures his availability as host of the No.1-rated TV show "American Idol" through 2012.

The partnership will provide the opportunity for Mr. Seacrest and his wholly owned Ryan Seacrest Productions banner (RSP) to work together with "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller on new entertainment endeavors. These new projects will be in addition to both of their continuing commitments to "American Idol."

Ryan Seacrest comments: "I'm truly appreciative of being part of a show that has had such an enormous impact on popular culture across all ages. I look forward to expanding the relationship with Simon Fuller and Bob Sillerman, who share the same visionary approach to entertainment media that I strive for with every project."

Simon Fuller, creator of "American Idol" and chief executive officer of 19 Entertainment comments: "I am looking forward very much to collaborating with Ryan on some new ideas. AI_NEWS~ Adam Lambert, Kris Allen Hit the Stage Again as American Idols Live Tour Kicks Off in Portland

Adam Lambert, Kris Allen Hit the Stage Again as American Idols Live Tour Kicks Off in Portland

Goth kids, soccer moms and diehard Idol junkies — including one superfan with Clay Aiken's autograph tattooed on her shoulder — packed Portland, Oregon's Rose Garden last night for the inaugural performance of American Idol's summer tour.

The two biggest stars of the show — winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert — embraced what endeared them to millions of fans throughout Season Eight. "Glambert" was out in full force, with tight pants, his otherworldly wail and a tribute to the original rock androgyne, David Bowie. Wrapped in a plaid shirt and a pair of jeans, Allen kept it simple and real, embracing the stripped-down soul sound that elevated him from dark horse to worthy champion.

An adorable montage of Allen's baby pictures, plus David Cook's new video and a few airborne beach balls, kept the audience entertained as Idol No. 10 Michael Sarver prepared to take the stage. Backed by a small band with a big sound, the full-voiced Texan kicked off the show in high spirits with Gavin DeGraw's "I'm in Love with a Girl," which he dedicated to his wife, Tiffany. Megan Joy took the stage for two numbers — and lots of shimmying — reprising one of her best Idol performances, "Put Your Records On." Piano man Scott MacIntyre left his pink pants at home but his rendition of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" — and his gentle mocking of Ryan Seacrest's attempt to high-five him at the auditions — drew some of the loudest applause of the night.

Sure, the Idols can sing … but can they dance? As Rolling Stone reported from the Idol tour rehearsals, choreographer JaQuel Knight was putting the Top 10 through a workout, and Lil Rounds confessed pre-show that she was nervous about nailing the complicated choreography for Beyoncé's "Single Ladies," but her moves — and stylish cat suit — did the R&B diva justice. Luckily, the pulsating psychedelic patterns that backlit the stage weren't enough to throw Rounds off her game. Throwing a bone to the older folks in the audience, Anoop Desai started off his set with a pitch-perfect "Always on My Mind," the Willie Nelson crooner that wowed the judges during Grand Ole Opry week. But New Jack Anoop emerged — gyrations and all — with "My Prerogative," the Bobby Brown track that got him through the Wild Card round and into the Top 13.

The Idol groove continued with a charismatic Matt Giraud, who got the crowd moving with his piano-pounding version of Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle," then paid tribute to another soul great with an outstanding "Georgia on My Mind," giving his elastic voice the full workout, from raspy growl to falsetto.

Following a group medley that ran the gamut from Billy Joel (MacIntyre and Giraud on dueling pianos) to a taste of rap from Rounds and Desai, Allison Iraheta took the series' fairly tame group number "So What" and made it just as tough as Pink's version. With wind in her pink and purple hair, guitar strapped across her torso and a voice like a pack of cigarettes, the youngest Idol showed off her rock moves like a true rock goddess in the making.

Amid a sea of glow sticks and handmade T-shirts floated the hokiest sign of the night: "I'm okey dokey with Danny Gokey." The only Idol to perform a Michael Jackson song on tour, Gokey punctuated his "P.Y.T." with funky spins. (Adam Lambert discusses getting the Michael Jackson news here.) Dressed in his Sunday best, the church music director waxed philosophic about following your dreams, closing his set with two crowd-pleasing Rascal Flatts ballads.

In true Robert Plant style, Lambert made his arrival known, punctuating his three-octave howl on "Whole Lotta Love" with pelvic thrusts and microphone straddling, then quickly switched gears for the haunting "Mad World," showing off his crystalline falsetto against a moody backdrop of smoke and twinkling lights. After reprising "Slow Ride," his energetic duet with "little sister" Iraheta, Lambert closed his set with a medley of Bowie songs, then sunk down into the stage to the loudest cheers of the night.

Marked by explosive bursts of noise and color, the countdown culminated in Season Eight champion Allen, who eschewed theatrics for a straightforward set of Idol favorites, from the soulful, percussive "Heartless" to his stirring piano-and-vocals interpretation of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine." Calling for a sea of cell phones and lighters, Allen finished his set with a plaintive rendition of "Hey Jude," bringing the rest of the Idols back on stage to close out the show with Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" … perhaps a tribute to former band member Randy "the Emperor" Jackson?

Set List:

Michael Sarver: "I'm in Love with a Girl" (Gavin Degraw); "Closer" (Ne-Yo)
Megan Joy: "Put Your Records On" (Corrine Baily Rae); "Tears Dry on Their Own" (Amy Winehouse)
Scott MacIntyre: "Bend and Break" (Keane); "A Thousand Miles" (Vanessa Carlton)
Lil Rounds: "Be Without You" (Mary J Blige); "No One" (Alicia Keys); "Single Ladies" (Beyoncé)
Anoop Desai: "Always on My Mind" (Willie Nelson); "Mad" (Ne-Yo); "My Prerogative" (Bobby Brown)
Matt Giraud: "Hard to Handle" (The Black Crowes); "Georgia On My Mind" (Ray Charles); "I Found You" (The Fray)
Group Medley
Allison Iraheta: "So What" (Pink); "Cry Baby" (Janis Joplin); "Barracuda" (Heart)
Danny Gokey: "P.Y.T." (Michael Jackson); "Maria Maria" (Santana); "What Hurts the Most," "My Wish" (Rascal Flatts)
Adam Lambert: "Whole Lotta Love" (Led Zeppelin); "Starlight" (Muse); "Mad World" (Tears for Fears/Gary Jules), "Slow Ride" with Allison Iraheta (Foghat), "Life on Mars," "Fame, "Let's Dance" (David Bowie)
Kris Allen: "Heartless" (Kanye West); "No Boundaries" (Idol coronation song); "Bright Lights" (Matchbox 20); "Ain't No Sunshine" (Bill Withers); "Hey Jude" (The Beatles)
Encore: "Don't Stop Believing" (Journey)

'American Idol' judge Kara DioGuardi marries Mike McCuddy

Monday, July 6th 2009, 10:59 AM

'Idol' judge Kara DioGuardi wed teacher-turned-general contractor Mike McCuddy during a small ceremony in Maine.

"American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi has something to sing about!

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter wed teacher-turned-general contractor Mike McCuddy during a small afternoon ceremony held in Prospect Harbor, Maine on July 5, In Touch Weekly reports.

The couple, who got engaged in December, first met when McCuddy, 34, built the house next to Kara's in Maine.

On an even sweeter note, the couple exchanged vows in front of about 30 guests at the United Methodist Church, which is located across the street from her house.

"I feel great. What was most unbelievable about the experience was when I looked out at the church and saw all these people that were so important to me and Mike, who were there for us," said the blushing bride, 38, who wore a Vera Wang gown at the ceremony.

"It was pretty powerful. I was very emotional and I'm not somebody who breaks down and cries."
