It's never easy to put a smile on Simon Cowell's face…not even at a $1.5 million party.

The "American Idol" judge and reality TV producer extraordinaire celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday night with 400 guests at Wrotham Park, a 250-year-old country house north of London, the London's Daily Mail reports.

A giant image of Cowell was reportedly projected onto the house's facade, and Earth, Wind and Fire provided entertainment along with Cowell protégés Leona Lewis, Westlife and Il Divo.

Guests at the lavish celebration included actor Kevin Spacey, supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, "Hell's Kitchen" star Gordon Ramsay, "America's Got Talent" judge David Hasselhoff and "Idol" pals Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ryan Seacrest.

Recently departed "Idol" judge Paula Abdul also attended, and could have traded stories with "America's Got Talent" judge Sharon Osbourne, who had a controversial departure of her own from Cowell's British show "X-Factor."

Still, despite the A-list guests, star entertainment, and expensive gifts - publicist Max Clifford gave Cowell a miniature statue of Frank Sinatra valued at more than $100,000 - not all was perfect.

Before the party, as Cowell was having 960 bottles of Sapporo beer delivered to his home, a deliveryman from Harrods department store apparently dropped a case on the driveway, and Cowell's prized Rolls Royce Phantom (worth more than $475,000) was sprayed by broken glass.

Moreover, the party was reportedly a source of stress for Cowell.

A source told the Daily Mail that Cowell was 'tearing his hair out' over seating arrangements and other final arrangements as the party approached, while singer Sinitta, a former Cowell girlfriend, spoke of Cowell's reluctance to be the center of attention.

"He said it was the first and last party he'd have to celebrate a birthday," Sinitta told the Mirror. "He really hates fuss."

Based on the scope of Cowell's party Saturday night, it sounds as if television's most prominent curmudgeon has had enough "fuss" to last several lifetimes.
