Fantasia Barrino boycotted Grammys over Aretha Franklin tribute, No one noticed

fantasia.jpgUm, if you have to call into a radio show to announce that you boycotted the Grammys after they already happened, doesn't that kind of defeat the whole purpose of boycotting?

"American Idol"
alum and 11-time Grammy nominee Fantasia Barrino called in to BET's 106 & Park on Monday, Feb. 14, to reveal to all the people who weren't wondering why she didn't attend the Grammys on Sunday, Feb. 13.

The singer was hurt that she wasn't asked to be a part of the Aretha Franklin tribute, which Christina Aguilera, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch and Martina McBride participated in:

"I'm going to be very honest with you. You know I wasn't at the Grammys last night. I'm kind of going through my own little thing. ... Last night they were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing last night."

Did you hear that, Fantasia fans? You can call off your searches, she was just at home on music's biggest night because a tribute shouldn't be about the person being honored; It should just be about the people honoring her apparently.

The good news is that Barrino won her first Grammy that night for Best Female Vocal Performance in the R&B genre for her song "Bittersweet." What was her reaction to finally winning after 11 nominations?

"Actually I scared my daughter because I just bust out and started crying, and she thought something was wrong with me. You know it's been a long time coming... at the end of the day its been a long time coming for me," she says. "I have been through a lot of things so when Brian called me (my manager accepted the award for me), I just bust out started crying because I felt like, man, I wasn't gonna stop until I got one and I'm still not going to stop and you know this has just given me motivation to do my own thing."
