Los Angeles police arrested a woman who they said walked up to the ex-girlfriend of 'American Idol' judge Simon Cowell and started choking her outside the Nokia Theatre during the music talent show's performance finale.
Janis Thibodeaux, 33, faces a felony battery charge in connection with the incident, which was reported to police around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said Thibodeaux approached the victim, who was not identified and asked her if she was the ex-girlfriend of Cowell.
"When the victim stated that she was, the woman attacked her and attempted to choke her," Eisenman said.
Thibodeaux tried to flee from officers but was captured after a brief foot pursuit, Eisenman said.
Cowell was at L.A. Live for the finale of "American Idol," which was being broadcast from the downtown entertainment complex.
[Updated at 11:24 a.m.: Cowell's ex-girlfriend is Terri Seymour, who has worked as an entertainment correspondent for Fox and "Extra."]
